She served as a nurse and cook at the United States Army General Hospital located at Frederick, Maryland in the fall of 1864 until July 1865. Miss Fitch applied for a pension based on her nursing service. Although the index card notes her application, it does not record a certificate number for her pension so she may not have been approved for a pension.
Her mother Lucinda and three of her sisters are noted in the 1850 US Census at Salem in Washington County, New York. The 1870 US Census records her living in Illinois with her sister Sarah and brother-in-law Murray McFarland. The 1892 New York State census shows Prudence living with her sister Abigail McLean in Greenwich, New York. She passed away in 1896.
