Biography

Mary Magdalene was born in 1808. She was the daughter of John Fisher and Hannah Weiser.

"Magdalena born 10 Sep 1808, baptized 18 Oct, pastor Jacob ____, sponsor Magdalena Leffler [oldest sister of father Johann]." ^[1]

She married Jacob Herring (1805-1880) 24 Apr 1828 in Perry County, Ohio. ^{[2] [3]}

1850 she resided Colerain, Hamilton County, Ohio "Lana Herring age 41 born Pennsylvania". ^[4]

1860 she resided in Auglaize, Allen County, Ohio "M Hering age 51". ^[5]

Lena, as she's referred to in census records, lost three sons to the US Civil War. Third and fourth sons, Simon and Irwin enlisted 2 Oct 1861 Enlisted in Company F, Ohio 64th Infantry Regiment on 26 Oct 1861. Irwin died 3 Mar 1862 in hospital in Stanford, Kentucky. Simon died later that year 31 Dec 1862, killed in action in the Battle of Stones River, TN - the 7th bloodiest battle of the Civil War. Irwin was not married, but Simon was and left 4 sons.

Fifth son Manuel enlisted in the same company 13 Mar 1864 age 19. He died 15 Feb 1865 in hospital at New Albany, Indiana. It appears he was transported home to be buried in Fisher Cemetery in Lafayette, Ohio.

1870 she resided in the same place Auglaize, Allen County, Ohio "Mary Herron age 62 born Ohio". ^[6]

She passed away in 1876. She is buried in Mitchell Cemetery, Warren, Huntington County, Indiana. ^[7]
