Biography

Edward F. Fillingham Death • Jan. 5, 1940 - March 21, 2018 Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Edward Fillingham, 78, of Harrison, passed away on Wednesday, March 21 (2018) in the room he shared with his loving wife at Highland Court Nursing Home in Marshall.

Ed was born on Jan. 5, 1940, at his parent’s home in Olvey. He was the sixth of their eight children and was a loving, mischievous, youngest son. Ed graduated from Valley Springs High School.

In 1960, he spotted a lovely young lady, Betty Ann Risley, working in a department store window on the Harrison square, and made her his bride on Aug. 26, 1961. She survives. Eddie and Betty were the proud parents of Douglas Edward Fillingham, and enjoyed being active in baseball and FFA with him until his death on Jan. 19, 1980.

Shortly after his marriage, Ed purchased the family farm from his parents and operated the dairy for more than three decades. Never one to rest, Ed held several other positions while running the farm. He was employed at the Olvey Canning Factory, Sav-a-Stop and then Mass Merchandising, and he drove a bus for the Valley Springs Public School.

After selling the farm, Ed remained busy working as a driver for Schwans, as a night watchman for NACC, and until October, he stocked magazines in the Harrison Walmart.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sisters, Marian (James) Cox, of Little Rock, June of Kansas City, Kansas, and Betty Lou of Jet, Oklahoma, as well as two sisters-in-law, Shirley Mullins and Patty (Karl) Kelley, all of Harrison. He is also fondly remembered and deeply missed by a host of nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Foster and Jessie Cora (Pillow); his son, Douglas; and four siblings, Charles Guthrie, James Russell, Mary Evelyn Bennett and Shirley Ann Young.

Due to his wife’s declining health, a family memorial service will be held at a later date.
