Biography

Charles was a twin.

In 1865, the Fessenden family lived in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The household included Charles Fessenden, 53, a harness maker; his wife Sarah C., 44; their six children, Elizabeth J., 21, a bookkeeper; Charles N., 19, a librarian; Frank G., 16, a student; Nathan A., 11; Sarah C., 9; and William H., 5. All were born in Massachusetts. Also living with them were George Osgood, 21, born in New Hampshire; and Jeremiah Murphy, 19, born in Ireland. [1]

In 1870, the Fessenden family lived in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The household included Charles Fessenden, 58, a harness maker; his wife Sarah C., 49; their five children, Charles N., 23 a student; Frank G., 21, a law student,; Nathan A., 16, in school; Carrie S. (Sarah Caroline), 14, in school; and William H., 10, in school. Also living with them was a domestic servant, Julia Hannegan, 18. All were born in Massachusetts. [2]

According to FindAGrave records, Charles Fessenden was born 5 November 1812 in Lexington, MA, the son of Nathan and Jane. He died on 28 December 1884 in Fitchburg, MA. This basic data matches his Wikitree profile, except for his birthdate. Additional FindAGrave data: Charles was Baptized on 17 January 1813. Charles was a carriage maker. In 1840, he married Martha Elizabeth Newton (1819-1851). In 1852, he married Sarah C. Newton (1821-1903) [they were sisters]. Charles had children with both wives. Charles is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg, Worcester, Massachusetts. [3]

When his daughter Sarah Caroline was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 1856, Charles was a carriage maker, born in Lexington, Massachusetts married to Sarah C. (Newton), who was born in Fitchburg.[4]
