Bengt Walter was was born at Södra BB in Stockholm 12 September 1925 to Harry Paul Walter Feldreich and his wife Elsa Johanna Karolina.[1] The Feldreich family belonged to the German congregation in Stockholm since the time of his grandparents, who immigrated in 1895 and were naturalized in 1911, so his birth and baptism were registered there.[2] They lived on Kungsholmen.[3] Bengt remained an only child.[4]
Bengt Feldreich took his school teacher exam in 1949. He augmented his work as a teacher by a few nights a week as announcer for Radiotjänst. Radio soon became his main job and when public television broadcasting was started up in Sweden in the 1950s, he was one of the pioneers. In 1959 Feldreich took the intitiative to gather the Nobel Prize laureates for informal roundtable discussions in a format today running as Nobel Minds. While it was hosted by Bengt Feldreich 1959-1984 the title was "Science and man".[5]
From 1960 he was also the presenter and speaker voice in From All of Us to All of You, which has been a Swedish Christmas tradition since 1960. His falsetto rendering of the first bars of Jiminy Cricket singing "When You Wish Upon a Star" is memorable. After his retirement Feldreich recorded a few new snippets for the popular Christmas program every year until his death at an age of 94 years.[5]
Bengt Feldreich died 21 October 2019.[5][6]
