Biography

The son of Reuben Fegley and Angiette (Olson) Fegley, Harry Fegley was born in the village of Blasdell, New York in 1919.[citation needed] He lived there with his family[1] His mother passed away in 1921 and, after residing for a time longer in Hamburg Township,[2] Harry moved with his father and his siblings to Lackawanna, New York,[3] joining his oldest brother, Willis, who was also recently widowed.

Harry Fegley married Alice Rita Gordon (1921-1988), the daughter of Robert Gordon and Katherine Mason, making their home in Buffalo, New York, where Harry worked as a truck driver.[4] War broke out and Harry registered for the draft when he was 21, registering in Buffalo on October 16, 1940.[5] He stated that, at the time of his registration, he was married and unemployed. He recorded his address as 15 South Park Avenue in Buffalo, which was later updated to 86-A Albright Court, to 433 Edson Avenue, and finally to 15 Edson Avenue in Buffalo. Harry was described at 5'6" and 146 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He enlisted in the United States Army, enlisting at Buffalo on August 20, 1943[6] and being discharged on March 2, 1946.[citation needed]

His marriage did not survive the war; Harry Fegley married Margaret D. (Rockwell) Swisher (1911-2001), the daughter of John M. Rockwell and Minnie Mae Bloom, and the widow of Maynard Swisher (1911-1944), who had perished during the war. They married in Buffalo, New York on July 24, 1948.[7]

They made their home in Buffalo where, in 1950, Harry worked as a machine operator at an automobile factory.[8][9] Harry Fegley passed away in Hamburg, New York at the age of 67[10] and is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery and Mausoleum there.[11]
