William was born in 1819. He was the son of Augustus Fay and Nancy Fay. He passed away in 1892.
About 1840, William married Harriet Mott. They had the following children:

Harriet died in 1848. On October 10, 1849, William married widow Clarissa Kinyon Phillips. They had the following children:

Emma A. Fay Kinyon 4 August 1855 – 30 Dec 1927

In 1850, William (age 32) and Clarissa (age 30) farmed in Onondaga, Onondaga County. Living in the household were William's children from his first marriage: Edson Fay (age 9) and Ellen M. Fay (age 7), and Clarissa's children: Ellen Phillips (age 5) and Israel Phillips (age 4). William's brother Charles (age 35) and nephew Aaron Fay (age 22) helped work the farm. The family had real estate valued at $2,500.

Charles Fay (age 60) was again living with the family and helping work the farm. William was also doing some contractor work. The farm was valued at $5,000. Israel (age 23) lived nearby and worked as a house painter.
In 1875, William (age 56) and Clarissa [Clara] (age 50) farmed in Onondaga with their children: Curtis (age 25) and Emma (age 19). Charles Fay (age 61) lived with the family.
In 1880, William (age 61) and Clarissa (age 55) farmed in Onondaga with their children: Curtis (age 27) and Emma (age 24). Also living with the family were Frankie Fay Lynch's oldest child, William J. Lynch (age 4), farmhand William Wilcox (age 18), and servant Ellen Hogan (age 12).
