Attached are photos of my worksheets of the Fauth Genealogy. I haven't done any final records -- it's been a work in progress since the middle 70's when I was curious about our history and started researching. At that time, there were still some older relatives alive that told stories about the family. Research has become a lot easier with the internet, but there are errors out there and one must not take anything as gospel. (I've seen other people's ancestry sheets that I know for certain are wrong.) I've confirmed my information with at least 2 corroborating sources so I believe what I have I've noted is accurate. Most of my source records are church, census, courthouse, obituary, etc. (The church record book from Russia spells the name with a V -- Vaut ---probably someone just printing what they thought was the pronunciation as I did not find that spelling any other place) It might be a little hard to read, so if you need any clarification let me know.
To give you a basic idea of what you are looking at, our ancestor Johannes Faut emigrated from Au An Rhein, Rastatt, Baden to Bergdorf, Odessa around 1808
He had a son, Heinrich born 1817
Heinrich immigrated with his son Christof (born 1855) to the US in 1889. They lived with relatives in southern SD until 1892 when they homesteaded near Strasburg, ND Heinrich died there in 1895 -- I have copies of his will that was probated at the court house in Linton. He was buried at the homestead which was located about 1/2 mile west of Strasburg.
Unfortunately, there is nothing there any longer -- it is a field and the family graves were plowed under.
Christof moved his family to the Eureka, SD area in 1910. Strasburg had become predominantly Catholic and he didn't want any of his daughters to marry Catholics.
His son, Jacob (born 1886) & wife Magdalena Lapp had 4 sons; Milbert, Eugene (my father) Willie, and Reinie (your grandfather)
I have some pictures, if you'd like me to send any, let me know who you'd be interested in seeing.
I'm glad someone else is taking an interest in this; let me know what else I can tell you and if anyone you know from Germany has information, please pass it on to me. Family names usually indicated what "occupation" the family did to make a living so that would be interesting to know. I do know that those of emigrated to Russia were at least from the "middle class" as it took money and resources to make the trip. If I remember right, it was a 10 day journey down the river and then overland.
