Biography

According to descendants of the Vallimont family on message boards on the internet, the reason J-B's father Francois changed the family name from Fauconnier to Vallimont is because non-Frenchmen in the area mispronounced his name making it a vulgar word.

Marriage St. Mathieu Church, Farincourt, Haute-Marne

The year 1825 at 9 hours of the morning, before me, Claude Antoine Buisson, Mayor and Officer of the Civil State of the Community of Farincourt, Canton of Fayl-Billot, Department of Haute-Marne, has come Francois Fauconnier, son of major, Laborer of the Forge, living at Farincourt, Department of Haute-Marne, age of 22 years. The Act of Birth which preceded states he was born in Farincourt 28 Floreal (8th month) and Year XI of the Republic, son of deceased Jean Fauconnier, deceased at his home in Farincourt 7 January 1825 and the Jeanne Denis mother of the Groom, present and consenting to said marriage, of the one part and Anne Naudier, daughter minor, living also at Farincourt, age of 21 years. The Act of Birth which we received previously states she was born also at Farincourt the 12 Nivose Year XIII of the Republic, daughter of Antoine Naudier age 47 years, Proprietor, living in Farincourt and the Catherine Viennot, Father and Mother here present and consenting.

Requim the preceding of the celebration of marriage (the bans) of publication of the marriage have been made public in the community the Sunday 23rd and the 30th October at 9 in the morning. Having no opposition to the marriage being signified. Having obeyed the vows of matrimony, six of the code of the institute of marriage...the future Groom and the future Bride. They responded in the affirmative. We declare the name of said Francois Fauconnier and Anne Naudier are married and have made this act in the presence of Bathasard Fauconnier, first cousin of the Groom age 32, Sableur living in Farincourt and Jacques Jeannot also his first cousin, age 25 and Propietor of Valleroy and the Etienne Naudier, Uncle of the Bride, age 49, Proprietor living in Fouvent-le-Ville and Antoine Moris, first cousin of the Bride, age 31 years, Proprietor living also in Fouvent-le-Ville. Each joined to give voice and signed with us the Act of Marriage.

Of minor nobility, probably a baron, a stranger to manual labor. The family trained the king's falcons. During the French Revolution, the family lost everything and almost starved to death. Luckily, he married a peasant woman who knew how to work. Records from the church in Farincourt, France document his birth in 1803 - the son of Jean Fauconnier and Jean Denis.
