Biography

Robert is a son of David Farquhar and Judith [unknown]. The parents were born and died in Ireland. David and Judith were the parents of nine children. Seven of their children came to the US. Their oldest two sons, John and William James remained in Ireland. Of the seven that came to the US, the two daughters married in Ireland and then came over with their husbands. The five sons were single when they came and married in the US. ^[1]

OBITUARY - ROBERT FARQUHAR Robert Farquhar, who died in Winterset, August 25, 1911, was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, May 2, 1826. At the age of twenty-three, he came to America and for six years lived in New York City. In 1855 he moved westward with the tide of emigration, and located at Garden Grove, Iowa. In 1868, Mr. and Mrs. Farquhar moved to a farm just over the east line of Adair county. Here they resided until retiring from the farm in 1889, when they moved to Winterset. ^[2]

On April 2, 1857, he was united in marriage to Francis Brown at Garden Grove. Six children blessed their marriage. Of these, two died when less than two years old. Emma, the wife of James Lindsey died at the age of twenty five; Mrs. Samuel Haymond, who died about eleven years ago. Mrs. Farquhar and two children, Mrs. Calia Doak of Winterset and Hugh B. Farquhar of Orient, remain.

Mr. Farquhar was one of a family of seven children, four of whom have passed away during the past two years. He is survived by two brothers, Thomas of Humeston, Iowa, and James of Evansville, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Anna Jane Given of Madison County, Iowa.
