Alice and her mom are known to be volunteering in hospitals in 1862, Alice at the age of 15. they fled because " Phebe and Alice were suspected to be Spies, and notice in Louisiana Phebe was using her maiden name.

After The War

In 1868 Alice was living in New Orleans, or at least she claimed New Orleans as her residence in November on her marriage record.
After the war ended the Farmers left New Orleans for Massachusetts, they obviously lived there until after November 1868 when Alice married Charles Brown.
It is said that they then moved to Illinois. And that Samuel Risley, a patient from New Orleans and Alice corresponded. Her mother, Phebe and Alice moved back to Missouri, where in 1872 Alice and Samuel Risley were married. [4]

buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery in West Plains, Missouri.
In 1940, state officials of the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic dedicated a granite marker at her grave site.
