Alfred was a skilled artist and violinist and many of his paintings remain in the family like his self-portrait as shown in his profile.
He initially worked from 1879 for the Liverpool Mercury for seven years and then moved to London in 1886 to open up a tobacconist and musical instruments shop! It was located at 11 Jerdan Place Fulham Broadway London SW6 1BE.
