Biography

Margaret was born abt 1819 - 1821in Morebattle, Roxburghshire, Scotland. Her parents were Walter Fairbairn and Agnes / Ann Robertson.[1]

Margaret Fairbairn, daughter of Walter Fairbairn, married Joseph Broomfield on 11 Sep 1841 in Saint Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.[2][3] Joseph, age 47, died 1868. Registration was in Canongate. [4]

In 1851 Margaret, age 30, was the wife of Joseph Bromfield at 4 Gilmore Street, Edinburgh Canongate, Midlothian. Joseph, journeyman shoemaker, Margaret 'wife'. Children: Andrew, Agnes, Joseph[5]

In 1861 Margaret, age 41, was the wife of Joseph Broomfield at 88 Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh New Greyfriars, Midlothian. Joseph 41 bootmaker - cutter b Kelso, ROX; wife Margaret 41 b Morebattle, ROX; Children: Agnes 19 milliner b Morebattle; Andrew 16 printer compositor, Joseph 11, Walter 8, scholars; Margaret 3, Alison 8 mos, all b Edinburgh [6]

In 1871 Margaret, age 52, was the head of household at 21 No Richmond St, Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian. She was a Shop Keeper. Margaret 52 shop keeper b Morebattle, ROX; Children: Agnes 24 hat trimmer b Morebattle; Joseph 21 pastry baker "Hapitan"??, Walter 18 watch maker, both b Cannington, Edin; Margaret 13 envelope stamper, Alice 10 scholar, both b St Cuthberts, Edin. In 1881 Margaret, age 62, was the mother-in-law of George Hunter in Edinburgh St Mary, Midlothian.[8]

Margaret (Fairbairn) Broomfield, age 64, died in 1883. The death was registered in St Andrew (Edinburgh). Mother's maiden name was Robertson.[1] Her death was 23 Oct 1883 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

Widow of Joseph Broomfield, bootmaker, dtr of Walter Fairbairn, farm grieve (!), dec. and Ann (sic) Robertson, dec. The informant was her son-in-law George Hunter. (I have disregarded the Ann given as her mother, substituting Agnes, because of the family knowledge that links dtr Agnes as cousin to Adam Davidson, whose mother was Agnes Fairbairn, Margaret's sister.
