Biography

Joyce Fairbairn, a Canadian journalist, was the first woman to serve as the leader of the Government in the Canadian Senate. She was also the first woman to be a member of the Ottawa Press Gallery and was a founder of the Canadian Paralympic Foundation.

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, in 1939, she was the daughter of Lynden Eldon Fairbairn and Mary Elizabeth Young. She married Michael Gillan in 1967.

She died in 2022.^[1] A Lethbridge middle school was named in her honour.
