I joined in hopes of breaking through some brick walls in my maternal line. I am especially interested in the following surnames: Chandler, Adams, Alford, Sessoms, Mullington, Lewis, Allison, Wilson, Carothers.

I created a smaller GEDCOM with Family Tree Maker. A more complete version may be found at GEDMatch. My parents families were early settlers and their lines intermarried making it very difficult to use DNA to follow a specific lineage. I have found as few as three grandparent couples in common with a DNA match.

Hi

As we discussed your membership in US Southern Colonies Project, you have been removed from the project for now. However, if you’d like to rejoin at any stage you would be most welcome to do so by answering the G2G sign-up post here.

Many thanks,

Mary, Membership Coordinator, US Southern Colonies Project

Hi Edie,

It is that time again...

This is the semi-annual polling for the US Southern Colonies Project. This check-in with members is to see if you have been active in the last six months in this project and want to remain a member of US SC?

Please note that it is a requirement for membership in the US Southern Colonies Project that you respond to these check-ins.

I look forward to hearing from you.. Many thanks,

Mary, Project Coordinator, - Membership US Southern Colonies Project

Not really, I have not made much progress on Wikitree. I spend most of my time on Ancestry because it’s easier.

Hi Edie,

I understand. Sometimes our focus changes and we change the way we do research or interest.

The US SC badge will be removed when this Check in is over.

Please remember that if you want to return to Wikitree or become interested in US SC project again, and you’d like to rejoin at any stage you would be most welcome to do so by answering the G2G sign-up post here.

Many thanks,

Mary, Project Coordinator, Membership, US Southern Colonies Project

Hi Edie,

This is June, 2021, which makes it time to have a check-in of members for your activity in the last two months. On behalf of the US Southern Colonies Project Leaders, I am doing a check-in with members to see if you were Active in the US_Southern_Colonies (US SoCOL) . Please reply with whether you have been active in work for the last two months in https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:US_Southern_Colonies?

Your work for US Southern Colonies might include Teams, Bio Builders, Quality Assurance, Sourcing, Profiles, Stickers for Southern Colonies, Categories for Southern Colonies, Managed Profiles, PPP profiles, Arborists, Data Doctors for Southern Colonies

Please notify me of this activity or you can post a message on my page here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Richardson-7161 (If you do not know which team you are on, then contact me for clarification)

Thanks for your help.

I haven’t been active. I didn’t realize how difficult the learning curve would be. I feel I need to learn more and add to my tree.

I am sorry, Edie. I see you are just beginning on adding your tree. I am going to send you a suggestion on a private WikiTree email. I did go through your contributions to see if you had added even stickers. But you are not back far enough. .

Look for the other wikiTree private email.

Hi Edie! You'll get there. I found WikiTree's learning curve to be incredibly steep, but it goes fast once you start adding profiles... the more you play, the easier it gets. I usually recommend that people build out their tree & by the time they get to the pre-1776 profiles, they've got the hang of WikiTree. Since you uploaded a GEDCOM, you have your tree but not the experience, so I would recommend that you start reviewing all the profiles you uploaded - start with your parents and work from there. You'll want to have each profile genealogically defined (see Space:Genealogically_Defined) and have a bio (see this page for ideas). See also Help:Biographies for basic structure for WikiTree profiles and "The List" posted by the Biography Builders Project (here).

If you need help, you can post to G2G or give me a holler (I can help with how WikiTree works & WikiTree coding - I don't do genealogy much outside my own tree).

Once you get to profiles that are within the scope of the project, you can post to the Discussion Google Group too.

Cheers, Liz

Hi Edie,

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message.

PS There is a tool that can help with cleaning up GEDCOM created biographies. It lets you concentrate on the genealogy rather than the formatting. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Hello Edie,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are usually shared by many descendants, collaborating with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Review the project pages to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hello Edie!

Thank you for joining us! I wanted to check in with you to see how things are going. How do you like WikiTree so far? Have the tips in the New Member How To Pages been helpful or have they left you with questions?

Please let me know if you have any questions about WikiTree. To contact me, log in to WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment to be sure that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page. It's really great to have you on board.

Cheryl ~ WikiTree Messenger

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Thank you. I made a few entries and then made a mistake. I requested a merge but nothing has happened yet, or I haven’t discovered how to follow up. I do need to review further and create more profiles.
