A warrant charging Edward E Levi, alias Levia, alias W B Lewis, with bigamy was issued yesterday on information sworn to by a woman who says there are others. The story she told is an interesting sequel to a sensation that interested New Orleans a short time ago. Witness - a dashing blonde (Mrs Lulu Fulton) - showing a deed that on Jan 22 1890, Edward E Levi and Millie Evans were married in St Louis - a certificate showing that she, Mrs Lulu Fulton, had been married to said Edward E Levi in Kansas City, Kansas on Mar 27 1894. Mrs Lulu Fulton was sitting with K W Langley, a dentist, of New Orleans, LA when the "Globe-Democrat" reporter called on her. - met Ed in Kansas City, MO, 2 years ago (1893) - married Mar 1894 in Kansas City, KS - was previously Mrs Lulu B Fulton and had 2 children - 'Where did I live with my first husband?" - Oh, that doesn't matter and has nothing to do with the case - he said his name was Edward E Levia and his parents lived in Louisville, KY - last Nov (1894) they move to New Orleans until Sep 1895l, for his business. - in business he embezzled money and got into trouble and then he came to S Louis. She then showed an article about him in the New Orleans "Times-Democrat" of Sep 26, relating how Levia (as he was known there) after precarious occupation of a petty bookmaker, drew money from the "Weather Journal" and passed checks on several persons, collecting $125 by working on the sympathies of people through the alleged death of his mother-in-law and finally departed, after announcing to the world through the medium of the press that he had fallen heir to an $800 estate in England. The police of New Orleans supposed he had gone to Atlanta, but he came to St Louis. - On Oct 9th I mad him leave the house here, as he refused to support me. When I married him I had property and diamonds and money, but now I have nothing. Everything has been spent in getting him out of trouble. I knew nothing of any previous marriage until after I came to St Louis. - Dr Langley here, came up from New Orleans last week, and he revealed the whole story, which ended with the issuance of the warrent. - Langley said that about the time the New Orleans papers printed the story of Levia's alleged inheritance he (the Doctor) was working in NO. One of his patients, a woman, read the story, and told the Doctor that Levia was her husband. The Doctor, knowing that naother woman thought she was Levia's lawful wife, naturally asked for further information. The woman told him a story to the effect that her maiden name had been Millie Evans, and she and Levia or Levi, as she knew him, had been married in St Louis. She became acquainted with Levi in Evansville, Ind. - on Monday morning Mrs Fulton received a note from Levi requesting her to meet him at Broadway and Morgan streets at 11 o'clock. She went early and looked up his prior marriage record and the met him. They went to a house near by and arrange that Dr Langley and a policeman follow them, but the Dr and policeman lost their way and could find them. Mrs Fulton chatted for a while and then told him she had discovered his previous marriage. He fell upon his knees and begged her to not get him in trouble but she was so angry she seized his cane and attempted to strike him. Levi fled into the street and hasn't seen him since. - Mrs Fulton with Dr Langley's assistance claim to have discovered that Levi is also known as W B Lewis, and that he has had other wives besides herself and Millie Evans. Two of them she says are dead. The other, who was Mrs Levi No3, is said to have formerly been a Mrs Maher of St Louis. - Dr Langley says Millie Evans of New Orleans will come to St Louis to aid in prosecuting Levi, if necessary. - Up to late hour last night the warrent had not been served on Levi.
