Biography

Farryl Essig was born in 1956 in Petersburg, Virginia to Claribel and George Essig. The third child and second son, Farryl attended Elementary School, 1st - 6th grades and attended grades 7-12, High School. Farryl was a strong student and excelled in academics and the visual arts. Recognized as early as the First grade for his artistic talent, Farryl pursued a study of the Visual arts in his high school years. After graduating as a Top Ten Senior and top Art student, Farryl combined his love of learning with creating and appreciating art by studying Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Upon Graduation, Farryl was offered several positions within Chesterfield County Public Schools as Elementary Art Teacher. He chose to teach as an itinerant at two schools, one in Northern Chesterfield and one in Southern Chesterfield. After three years, Farryl transferred to Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Virginia where he taught all phases of art and rose to Fine Arts Department Chair for nearly twenty years. Farryl introduced the analog photography program to the school in 1985. With the onset of computer technology, the digital photography technology was added to the program in 1995. Farryl prepared for this by earning a Master's Degree in Media and Technology in 1993 from Virginia State University in Ettrick, Va. Farryl's leadership was instrumental in Thomas Dale High School becoming the Specialty Center for the Performing and Visual Arts. Farryl guided many students to become award winning artists and photographers during his 34 year career at Thomas Dale High. He retired in 2012.

in the Fall of 2012, Farryl moved to North Myrtle Beach, SC to teach art at North Myrtle Beach High School. He again challenged students to become the best artists they could be as students were taught new and interesting art techniques. During each of his nine years' tenure, Farryl's students' art works were included in the Myrtle Beach ART Museum's High School Show. Farryl lent his theatrical talents to helped revive the Theatre Department early on while at NMBHS assisting with five musical productions. Art Students also gained recognition through participation in State Wide Art exhibits and competitions. In 2021, after 43 years in Arts Education, Farryl retired from South Carolina. He currently resides in Little River, SC and has been exploring his genealogy through the use of Wikitree.com. He has been amazed at the genealogical connections he has discovered and is continuing to discover. Farryl is anxious to utilize his artistic talents and combine them with his new found love of genealogy.

Farryl has two sons and two Grand daughters and a grandson.. Farryl can be found on social media currently through facebook. You can get a glimpse of his art on that platform.
