Biography

Winnifred May Eshelby was born on 17 May 1923 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, daughter of Frank Henry Eshelby (1895 - 1974) and Annie (Perrey) Eshelby (1896 - 1976).[1] She was known as Win.

Win never married.

In 1978 Win travelled to England.

Win made two trips to Australia to visit cousins, in 1971 and 1988.

In her later years Win suffered from Alzheimers disease and was living in a home.

Winnifred died on 7 March 2005 at Buchanan Lodge, 409 Blair Avenue in New Westminster, British Columbia aged 81. Her funeral was held on March 18, 2005 at Salvation Army Buchanan Lodge, 409 Blair Avenue, New Westminster,

Winnifred May Eshelby was born on May 17, 1923 in Vancouver, British Columbia. She grew up on Capital Hill in the North Burnaby area. Both her father and mother were from England. Her father Frank, worked for David Spencer Ltd., as well as at various other jobs during the depression. Her mother Annie, worked as a tailor in England and then as a domestic when the family came to Canada. Winnifred was the middle child of three. Her older sibling died at birth and her sister Grace, is living in the United States. Winnifred never married.
Winnifred graduated from Burnaby North HIgh School in 1941. She was a good student. She became a secretary fo Mary Pack, the founder of the Arthritis Society. Winnifred reitred in 1985. She was good to her parents as when she bought her house they lived with her until their deaths.
Winnifred loved to travel. Her first trip to England was definitely a highlight. She sailed there in 1951, aboard the Queen Elizabeth and returned home aboard the Queen Mary. Winnifred wrote many descriptive letters about places where she traveled: Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Hong Kong, China, USA, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Alaska. Buying her first car and taking driving lessons were also significatn events for her. Her sister Grace, described Winnifred as being a quiet and very proper lady. She had always been very neat and precise.
Winnifred was always on the go. She loved gardening, swimming, photography and knitting. She gave support to the Girl Guides and the Monarchist League, along with St. Nicholas Anglican Church in North Burnaby. Winnifred enjoyed music very much, especially the old hymns. She had a deep faith in the Lord. Winnifred is missed by her family and friends and the residents and staff on Camelia Park.

She was buried on 18 March 2005 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
