Biography

Michael was born in Germany in Sept. 1862. He emigrated to the United States in July or August of 1886 at the age of 24 on the ship Labradoor into New York. He listed his occupation as a farmer and sailed steerage along with a number of other immigrants from France and Germany. Arriving in New York, he soon settled in Syracuse, NY and took employment as a waxworker. By 1889, he had married a widow, Ludwinia Hinkler, who had 3 children from her first marriage. Ludwinia was also an immigrant from Germany (in 1870). Together, Michael and Ludwinia had an additional 5 children: William J., Lucy A., Leonard, Frances, and Edward J. At the turn of the 20th century, Michael worked as a teamster. After Ludwinia's passing in 1905, Michael married Franziska Wiznowski, also from Germany. Michael passed away in 1941 and is buried in Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse, New York.

According to Margaret Endres ^[1] her grandfather had emigrated from Alsace, which was a part of the German Empire from 1871-1918.
