Biography

Mary Anne was the daughter of George Elliott a Farmer of Corranness and Mary Cassidy. ^[1] She was baptised on 31 July 1865 at Ardara.^[2]

She emigrated to New Zealand under the assisted immigrant scheme with her sister Catherine on the ship 'Wellington' in 1882 and arrived in Otago on 8 March 1883. ^[3]

In July 1883, Mary Ann was a witness to her sister Catherine's marriage to Matthew Baxter.

Mary Anne married Thomas Mitchell of Scotland in 1885 and being unable to write signed her name with an x. ^[4]

She had 5 known children to Thomas. Mary Anne was widowed in 1911 and never remarried.

She passed away in 1942 age 75 at her son's home in Invercargill and is buried at Sydenham cemetery, Christchurch. BLK 1G PLOT 39.^[5]
