Biography

European Aristocracy
Lady Mary Egerton was a member of the aristocracy in England.

Lady Mary Egerton was the daughter of John Egerton, 1st Earl of Bridgwater and Lady Frances Stanley.[1]

She married Richard Herbert, 2nd Baron Herbert of Chirbury, son of Edward Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Chirbury and Mary Herbert, on the 19th of November 1627 at Bridgwater House, Barbican, London, England.[2]

They had:

  1. John Herbert
  2. Edward, b. c. 1633 - d. 1678. No Issue.
  3. Henry, b. c. 1640 - d. 1691. No Issue.
  4. Florence
  5. Frances, [3]
  6. Alicia married John Burrard.[4]

Lady Mary Herbert passed away at Montgomery, Powys, Wales in 1659 and was buried in the St Nicholas' Churchyard.

Hi there,

Mary Herbert's will names three children: oldest son Edward, daughter Florentia, younger daughter Arabella. Arabella inherits most of Mary's estate but as she is under-age Florentia is made her guardian.

Edward is also referred to as oldest son in his father's will of 1655. This will also names is Edward's wife Anne. It also refers to daughters and "younger sonnes" without naming any of them,

As the oldest son is Edward, born c1633, that suggests that if they did have a son John he was either younger than Edward or was dead before 1655.

Just looking at the Powis Castle papers and the daughters were:
  1. Frances, eldest daughter married a Browne, she was dead by 1692
  2. Florentia, second daughter married her cousin before 1664, died after 1692
  3. Alice, died between 1701 and 1707
  4. Arabella, died a spinster after 1707
