Biography
Louisa (Edmonson) Joy is a part of US Black heritage.
Louisa was born around 1848 in Montgomery County, Maryland, the youngest child of Paul Edmonson, a free black man, and Amelia, an enslaved woman. By law, since Louisa's mother was enslaved, the Louisa was born enslaved. Six of Louisa's older siblings were involved in a famous slavery escape attempt referred to as the Pearl incident.
Louisa married Gilbert Joy on 23 Apr 1863 at Washington, D.C. [1] Among their children are:

- Gilbert
When Gilbert died on 07 Dec 1919 they lived at 2135 L St. NW in Washington, D.C.[2]
She passed away in 1916 in Washington, DC and is buried in National Harmony Memorial Park Cemetery, Hyattsville, Prince George's County, Maryland.
