Thomas Alva Edison Jr. was born on Jan 10, 1876 in Raritan, Middlesex, New Jersey[1] to famed Inventor Thomas Alva Edison I and his 1st wife Mary (Stillwell) Edison. His nickname was "Dash", as sister Marion's nickname was "Dot".
He refused to work in the lab or go to school and became involved in some medicinal "quackery", so his father asked him to change his name, which he did to Thomas Willard, for a time. He tried his hand at some failed inventions and a mushroom farm.
He married 1) stage actress Marie Louise Toohey in a secret ceremony on Feb. 19, 1899 in Manhattan, New York.[2] The marriage failed after a year.
He then married 2) Beatrice Montaigne Heyzer on May 7, 1906 at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Trenton, New Jersey.[3]
Thomas died on 25 August 1935 and is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Newark, Essex, New Jersey.
