Biography

Charles was born on Mar 29, 1868 to Stephen Eaton and Mary Desiah Parker in Pugwash, Cumberland, Nova Scotia, Canada. He married Mary Parlin of Natick, Middlesex, Massachusetts in 1895, and the couple had six children (see below).

Children were born in Toronto, Ontario, Marblehead, Essex, Massachusetts, Cleveland, Ohio and New Jersey. Charles's duties as a pastor required him to live in Massachusetts and Ohio before settling in New Jersey to serve as pastor at Madison Avenue Baptist Church in NYC.

Children born to Charles Eaton and Mary Parlin:

  • Marion Aubrey 1896-1990
  • Margaret Evelyn 1897-1940
  • Frances Winnifred 1899-1961
  • Charles Aubrey Jr. 1901-1983
  • Mary Rose 1904-1984
  • Catherine Starr 1910

Charles moved his family to North Plainfield, Somerset, New Jersey, in 1908, to a part of the borough that became Watchung, Somerset, New Jersey in 1926. He built a home there and also owned a dairy farm (Sunbright Farms).

In 1924, Charles was elected to represent New Jersey in the U. S. House of Representatives. He represented the states's 4th District (1925-1933) and, as a result of redistricting, the state's 5th District (1933-1953).

He was one of the signers of the original United Nations Charter, June 26, 1945, in San Francisco.

He died in Washington, D. C., on January 23, 1953. He is buried at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, Union, New Jersey.
