Biography

1776 Project
Abel Eaton was a Civil Servant in the American Revolution.

REVOLUTIONARY WAR SERVICE Eaton, Abel b 1727 d Harpswell 1806 MOCA also PS r Georgetown TR-G1, p 49 page 228 Soldiers Sailors & Patriots of the Rev War Maine by Carlton & Sue Fisher

Born to Jonathan Eaton and Judith Ash. Abel married twice. His first wife, Dorcas Coombs Eaton,[1] bore him a child, Judith Eaton Staples. His second wife, Sarah, is buried near him.

The Holbrook transcription of vital records lists Abel's date of birth as "1 Mar 1726-1727" apparently having trouble deciphering the last digit of the year. His headstone reads "In memory of Mr Abel Eaton who died March 10th 1806 En 79". Considering that his birthday is March 1st, Abel had just turned 79 before his death and that makes the year of his birth 1727.

Abel and Sarah Eaton are interred at the Cranberryhorn Cemetery in East Harpswell, Cumberland County, Maine, USA.

Ever hear of double dating? The reason certain dates look like that, “1 Mar 1704/5” is because of the calendar change. The date of the year used to change in springtime. Look it up.

Eaton-3325 and Eaton-2722 appear to represent the same person because: These two were born on the same day in the same place and are married to the same woman.
