Anthony Cecil Eastway was born on 9th October 1922 at Cremorne, New South Wales, Australia. He was the son of Cecil Eastway and Lizzy Williams.
On 7th January 1942 he enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force for service during the Second World War.[1] He was allocated to the 2/3rd Australian Machine Gun Battalion with whom he attained the senior non-commissioned rank of Sergeant. Anthony joined the remnants of the battalion after the mauling it received at Java by the Japanese. The battalion spent time at the Cowra prisoner of war camp, before being spread across Queensland and Dutch New Guinea. From December 1944 the battalion supported the 6th Division's Aitape-Wewak campaign with its heavy fire-power.[2] He was discharged on 4th February 1946.
Anthony married Rosemary Fimognari in 1954 at North Sydney, New South Wales.[3]
