Thomas was born in 1913. He was the son of Thomas Duston and Cora Elliott. He and his sister, Natalie, lived together on their family's ancestral farm on Duston Road together for many years. In a matter of decades, the land that was once their farm became a thriving street in Salem as houses were built in the area. In the neighborhood, he was known as a very alert neighbor. He passed away in 2006 and his familly's centuries old farmhouse was demolished in 2023.
