Biography

Early Life

Vernon was born 31 Oct 1923 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.[1][2] He was the son of Edward Norton Vincent and Ella Jane Bahrman. At some point, his parents moved to a farm in George, Grant, Washington, United States.

Military

He enlisted in the Navy Feb 1943. He held the ranks of Machinist 1st Class and Fireman 1st Class (ship Algorab).[3] He was discharged in 1946.[4]

Family

He married Wanda Jean Rutledge 14 Feb 1946 in Los Angeles, California, United States.[5]

They divorced before 21 Mar 1951 when she remarried.

He married Betty Jean Harter 1 April 1954 in Grants Pass, Josephine, Oregon, United States.[6]

They the following children:

  2. a daughter (private-living)

Betty also had a son from a previous relationship who started going by the last name Durrent after they married.

They divorced before 15 Apr 1960 when she remarried.

He married Janet Ann King 7 December 1962 in Kootenai, Idaho, United States.[7] He met her in California and they went to live on his parent's farm in George, Grant, Washington. He had also lived there with his previous wife, Betty.

They had the following child:

  1. Steven Durrent (1962-2004)

Janet's son Michael Vernon Gulick started using the last name Durrent though he didn't legally change it until adulthood. It's not known if Vernon was his middle name prior to their marriage. Her daughter was listed in various records with the last name but she never used it to her knowledge.

They divorced before 1967 when he remarried.

He married a woman from Thailand (private possibly living) in Thailand in 1967. They have no known children. They divorced Dec 1969 in California, United States.

He married a woman from Vietnam (private possibly living) about 1970 in Vietnam whom he was married to at the time of his death. They had no known children.

She came to the US after his death and came to the home of his ex wife Janet in an attempt to claim the home that he and Janet once lived in but was not successful. She obtained her citizenship on 2 Feb 1982, remarried 13 Oct 1983 and is currently living in California.

Career

He built bridges generally throughout the West Coast of the US but he also worked in different parts of the world. He was working in Sai Gon, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam when he passed away.

Death

He passed away 21 Mar 1973 in a motorcycle/vehicle collision in Sai Gon, Sai Gon, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam due to a head injury he sustained. He was taken to Sai Gon Adventist Hospital in Sai Gon, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam but he could not be saved. He was flown to the United States to Tajunga, Los Angeles, California to Bade Mortuary, 10177 Tujunga Canyon Blvd, Tujunga, Los Angeles, California.[10]
