Biography

The son of Daniel Duffie and Gertrude (Gibson) Duffie, Billie Duffie was born in Saluda County, South Carolina in 1931.^{[citation needed]} By 1940, his family lived and farmed in Floyd Township, South Carolina, in Newberry County.^[1][2]

Billie Duffie enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, enlisting on July 9, 1951 and being discharged on January 31, 1974.^[3] While on duty in North Carolina, he married Mildred Anne Pittman (1929-), the daughter of James Leslie Pittman and Minnie Baker, marrying in Wayne County, North Carolina on April 2, 1955.^[4] They divorced in Raleigh, North Carolina on February 5, 1979.^[5] He remarried later that year, marrying Edna Earle Henderson (1935-2013), the daughter of Clarence Melvin Henderson and Lou Mitchell.

Billie Duffie died of a sudden heart attacked at the Wake County Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the age of 49.^[6][7] He is buried at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, North Carolina.^[8]
