Andrew Berkeley Drummond attended Winchester College. He inherited the Cadland estate in 1804 [1]and followed his father as a partner (appointed 1787) and major shareholder of the Drummond Bank. He was just 24 years old when appointed as a partner [2]
His reputation as a serious and hard-working young man, was a contrast to his father's reputation as a rake in society. [2] He added to the Cadland estate and became a leading member of the landed society in South Hampshire. In 1819, following the Peterloo Massacre a declaration by the elite of the county was published in the Salisbury and Winchester Journal signed by a large number of Hampshire notables including the Earl of Malmesbury (then Lord Lieutenant), the Duke of Wellington, Viscount Palmerston, Marquis of Winchester, the Bishop of Winchester and a good number of other clergy and lay-gentlemen including Andrew Berkeley Drummond. [3] The declaration was addressed to the High Sheriff of the County of Southampton.
