OBITUARY. LES DRAKE BROCKMAN. The death has occurred in the city, where he has been under medical attention for a long period, of Mr Elliot Leslie Drake Brockman, formerly of Beverley and Albany. Deceased was 50 years of age and was born in the city, coming to the Beverley district with his parents following their purchase of a farming property. The family has been associated with the district ever since. The deceased was educated at the local State School and worked on his parents farm until his enlistment in the first world war, in which his brother, Howden, also served, being killed at Gallipoli.
Les was first with the 10th Light Horse but later transferred to the artillery and served for a long period in France. It was whilst on service that he first suffered those seizures that were to affect him throughout the remainder of his life and which ultimately caused death. On his return from France he farmed for a period in this district but ill-health forced his retirement and he then lived for a period at Albany, later being transferred to an institution in the city. The funeral took place in the Church of England portion of the Karrakatta cemetery on Monday last.
Deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs Amy Brockman, of Beverley and the following sisters and brothers. Vanda – Mrs C Ridgway – Commberdale; Edith – Mrs G Ladyman – Dumbleyung; Elvire – Mrs Jos Crofts – Albany; Gordon – Beverley; Hester – Mrs Bennett – Dumbleyung; Vernon Katannning; and Margaret – Mrs Alan McDonald – Kalgoorlie.
