Biography

William was born about 1837, Ayrshire. Parents being James Dow and Jean Roxburgh.

1841 Address 46 Robertson Place Killmarnock, William is 4 years old, his father James is about 30 years old occupation is that of a Woolen Hand Loom Weaver, his mother Jean is about 25 years. Siblings in the household are Margaret is 8 years old, Robert is 6 and James 2 years old, all family members born in Ayr. Also in the household is Roseburgh ( Roxburgh) James, age 20, occupation Calico Printer, birthplace Ayr. ^[1]

1851 The family have moved from Ayrshire to West Mill , Midlothian, William now 14 years old and is recorded as attending school ( Scholar ), his father James is now 44, occupation Carpet Weaver, mother Jane aka Jean age 40. Siblings in the household are Margret is 19, occupation Carpet Setter, Robert is about 17 years old , occupation is that of a Carpet Dresser, James is 12, also a (Scholar) and the newest addition to the family is David who is 4 years old.
