I am a mixture, Acadian (father & his father Louis which I have as a middle name), Irish (my father's emigrant mother & her parents), Scottish (my mother and her father, a Ross, which I also have as a middle name), English (my mother's London-born mother and her Cornish-born parents). But I was brought up to believe my stepfather was my father. He was a good man, but not my father, and this started me tracing who I really am.

But I started only after my mother, keeper of secrets, and stepfather had died, which did not help. It was pre-internet, hours spent in libraries and registries. What has helped since then is the virtual Acadian cousinage and all the historical work Acadians have done, thank you, which sort of parallels my small story.
