Biography

Patricia Peyton - Obituary:

Patsy Ruth was the only child of Charles and Myrtle Doolittle, born in the 16th year of their marriage. She graduated with honors from Newberg High School, and met Harold Ray Peyton while getting her teaching degree at Oregon State University. They married in Klamath Falls, OR in June, 1950. Pat, Hal and family lived in Fairbanks 1953-1972 where Hal taught civil engineering at the University.

Pat's adventurous nature was evident throughout her life. She was a welder's helper in the Portland ship yards during WWII; drove with Hal from Oregon to Alaska on the barely drivable Alcan Highway with two toddlers; cheerfully lived in Barrow in a Quonset hut with honey buckets in the bathrooms; purchased an acreage in Newberg so her two youngest sons could raise sheep; at 75 years young joined her children on a tent camping/kayaking trip in southeast Alaska; and traveled nationally and internationally on many educational excursions.

Most important to Pat was her relationship with people. Her calm demeanor and innate ability to see the humor and positive side of any situation were appreciated by all those who knew her. Her friends were of all ages and backgrounds.

Her love of learning, especially through books, was evident in her extensive personal library. For several years she participated with the Friends of the Library organization, assisting in the raising of funds for the Newberg Public Library. She greatly valued the education of children and youth through literature and the fine arts.

She remained fully present, engaged and curious to the very end. Pat's life was truly well lived. She loved and was loved by many, and will be missed.
