Biography

Gertrude was born either January 27, 1888 or Feb 4, 1889 in Sunny Brae, New Brunswick. She was a daughter of Edward Donahoe and Catherine (McKelvie) Donahoe. ^[1][2]

She married Francis Silas Lean, a grocer from Lewisville, on April 12, 1915 in Westmorland County, New Brunswick. He was a son of Elijah Lean and Adelia (Lockhart) Lean.^[3]

Shortly thereafter, they moved to Middlesex, Massachusetts where Silas was working as a candy packer. ^[4]

Gertrude passed away on August 7, 1959 in Moncton, New Brunswick at the age of 71 and is interred at the Elmwood Cemetery.^[5][6]

Research Notes

Disagreement on birth date. The 1901 Census says she was born on January 27, 1888. The 1901 Census is frequently +1 or -1 on the year because the census takers estimated the year based on the age and were sometimes incorrect. The FS births and baptisms index indicates she was born on Feb 4, 1889. It is more likely than not that she was born on January 27, 1888 and baptized Feb 4, 1889.
