Harriet with her husband Edward and daughter Mary migrated to Australia on the SS Samuel Plimsoll, departing Plymouth about January 1878 and arriving in Sydney on the 28th July 1878.
Harriet died of pyremia from a pelvic abscess. She was buried at the Presbyterian Cemetery at Rookwood. She had previously slipped down some stairs while pregnant and never fully recovered, being nursed by her daughter Mary for some months up to her death
