Biography

Samuel was born about 1772. He and his wife Elizabeth came from Ireland (it is believed) about 1800 and then to Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and then to Virginia. They first purchased a farm in what was known as Central Station, Doddridge County, and after a brief trip to Ohio, returned to live on Middle Island Creek in Tyler County. They had a total of nine children. He died sometime after being listed in the 1850 census. Burial place is not known.

It in fact does not appear that Samuel Doak, Doak-675, that settled in Tyler County, VA, now WV, could be the son of David Doak, Doak-349, of Black Lick, Montgomery Co now Wythe Co, Virginia.

If you check out the Doig DNA project at the Family Tree DNA web site, there are descendants of David Doak, b 1710 d 1787 and Samuel Doak, d by May 1772 in Augusta Co, VA that are of the haplogroup R1b1a1a2a1a2 (YDNA P312+), while my haplogroup is i1 M253 DF29 CTS6364 S4795 FGC20030 S4767 S7642 FT16448 BY58030 BY131890 I-FTC79807 I-FTD34373.

New information from Family Tree DNA January 2024:

I-FTD34373's paternal line was formed when it branched off from the ancestor I-FTC79807 and the rest of mankind around 900 CE.
