Biography

Phebe Elizabeth Dixon was born on August 16, 1874, Stainmore, Westmorland, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of Matthew Dixon & Isabella Metcalf. Phebe was baptised on January 31, 1875 at their parish church in Brough, Westmorland.^[1]

In the 1881 census Phebe (age 6) was living with her parents and 4 siblings in Row Banks, Brough, Westmorland, England. She was a scholar and her father was an agricultural laborer.^[2]

In the 1901 census Phoebe (age 26) was the single servant of Edmund Airey in Tebay, Westmorland, England.^[3]

Phoebe's marriage to John James Bell was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1906 in the East Ward district.^[4] Together they had 3 children, James, John and Joseph.

In the 1911 census Phoebe (age 36) was the wife of J Bell in Stainmore Westmorland, Stainmore, England. She lived with her husband and two children. The census indicated the couple had had 2 children, both still being alive. Her husband was a railway labourer.^[5]

In the 1939 register Phoebe, Unpaid Domestic Duties, was married in Langdale Tebay. Penrith., North Westmorland, Westmorland, England.^[6]

Phoebe Elizabeth Bell died (age 82) on June 15, 1957, in South Cottage, Orton, Westmorland, England, United Kingdom.^[7] Her estate passed probate on 13 February 1968 in Carlisle, Westmorland.^[8]
