Biography

Dorthea was born in 1906 in Hebron, Pennsylvania. She was the last of four children born to William Franklin Dingman (1872-1958) and Louisa Christine (Bang) Dingman (1874-1955). Dorthea married to Dick Nichols and they had 3 children: Marian Louise Nichols (1924-1999), Richard Robert Nichols (1927-1997), and Arlene Jeanette Nichols (1929-2006). Dick died suddenly in 1958. Dorthea married Daniel Reed in 1962. She passed away in 1995.

• OBITUARY for husband. Richard H. Nichols Native of Roulette Dies Suddenly At Belmont, N. Y., Thursday. Richard H. Nichols, resident of Smethport, but a native of Roulette, died unexpectedly at Belmont, N. Y., Thursday (Apr. 17, 1958). Deceased was born August 22, 1902, a son of Henry and Aleta Gibson Nichols. He married Dorothy Louise Dingman in Olean, Jan. 24, 1924. He had resided at Coudersport for a time but had engaged in the restaurant business near Warren from 1954 to 1957. Survivors include his widow and three children, Mrs. Marian Prosser and Richard Nichols of Smethport and Mrs. Arlene Elder of Sharon, Pa. There are nine grandchildren. Brothers and sisters are Mrs. Helen Black, Rew City; Mrs. Ruth Lovejoy, Mrs. Mabel Echelburger and Mrs. Julia Mathews, Erie, Pa.; Mrs. Mollie Hurd Manley, Olean, N. Y.; Mrs. Hazel VanZile, Marcus and Howard, Roulette; Wesley Nichols, Knoxville; Robert W. Nichols, Wattsburg, Pa. Funeral service was held from the Grabe Funeral Home, Coudersport, at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. Lewis Rea, pastor of. the EUB Church at Millport, officiating. Interment was in Rathbun Cemetery in Eleven Mile. Pallbearers were Henry, Herman and Fred Black, Glen Criss, Robert Dingman Jr., and Paul Brewer.

• Former Resident Wed In Smethport. Mrs. Kenneth Wolbert of Seneca has announced the marriage of her father, Daniel Reed of Oil City, to Dorthea L. Nichols of Smethport, formerly of Coudersport. The double-ring ceremony was performed at 8:00 a.m. Saturday (July 7) in St. Elizabeth's Church, Smethport, by the Rev. J. J. Grode. The couple was attended by Mrs. Herbert Elder of Sharon, daughter of the bride, and Albert Reed of Oil City, son of the bridegroom. A wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party in the Colonial Hotel. The couple will reside in Oil City.
