Biography

Early Life

Linda Ann Sanders (née Diedrich) was born on 1 August 1932 in Waddington, St. Lawrence, New York, most likely in the home of her maternal grandparents. She was the oldest of the eight children of Luther Adolf Diedrich and Agnes Isabel Rutherford. She was baptized on 2 October 1932 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hamlin, Monroe, New York. Her godparents were her paternal aunt Margaret Diedrich and her father's maternal cousin Martin Klafehn.

The family permanently migrated back to her father's home county in 1934. They lived in Clarkson and then in Hilton, before settling on a large farm on Burritt Road in Parma, just south of the village. Linda was confirmed into the Lutheran religion on 14 April 1946 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hilton.

Linda graduated from Hilton High School in 1951, where she focused on art and home economics classes. She was the Art Editor of the school's yearbook the year that she graduated, as well as the secretary of the senior girl's chorus. She was also a participant in the choir of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Later Life

She married Ernest Lee Sanders of Manitou Road on 29 August 1953 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hilton. After honeymooning to Ernest's native Illinois, they temporarily made their home at 801 Manitou Road, before moving in with Ernest's parents at 838 Manitou Road. They had three daughters and a son together, who were all born in Brockport. They purchased a new home in the Westbrook Acres Tract of Brockport in November 1956, where Ernest and Linda lived for the rest of their lives.

She worked at Eastman Kodak in the dark room for a time. She then worked at Perfecto Cleaners, a laundromat on North Main Street in Brockport for a number of years. She also cleaned people's houses professionally on the side, including the houses of some SUNY Brockport professors. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and attended services every Sunday. In her spare time, she enjoyed vegetable gardening, square dancing, cooking, cake decorating, painting, coloring, and watching the Chicago Cubs.

Death

Linda passed away on the morning of 1 March 2023 at her home in Brockport, and was buried three days later in Parma Union Cemetery in Parma.
