Note: Herman lived in Muskegon all his life and attended schools there. He and his wife, Edith, did not have any children. They resided at 1785 Manz Street.

After serving in the armed forces during World War I, he was employed by the County Road Commission and the City of Muskegon Highway Department for several years before working at Brunswick Corporation as a lift truck operator. Herman retired from there in 1956.

He was survived by his wife; one brother, Fred, of Muskegon; and three sisters: Mrs. Anna Berghuis, of Muskegon; Mrs. Minnie Forest, of Grand Haven; and Mrs. Katherine Chapin, of Chino, CA.
