Biography

William, an only son, was baptised on the 30 November 1639 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the eldest son of William Dick of The Grange.[1][2]

William was married twice[3][4]:

  1. to Elizabeth, a daughter of Sir John Leslie of Newton, one of the Senators of the College of Justice and a younger son of Andrew, 4th Earl of Rothes. She died young leaving her husband two daughters, Anne and Janet.[5]
  2. to Charles, daughter of Robert Leslie of Kinclaven, third son of Patrick, Lord Lindores. She was cousin to his first wife, and bore him another three daughters, and a son and heir, William.

His wife Elizabeth was buried at Greyfriars Cemetery in Edinburgh on the 24 November 1674.[6]

This William Dick inherited his mother's estate and was served heir to it on 9th April 1679.[7]

Upon the death of his father he succeeded as the proprietor of The Grange[4].
