Biography

Alice Dexter was born, likely at Smithfield, Rhode Island about 1775, the daughter of Jonathan Dexter and Alice Lowe. ^[1]

She married William Carpenter, at Cumberland on January 1, 1794/5. William was born there on March 28, 1775, son of Jothan and Hannah (Gulley) Carpenter. ^{[1] [2]} Her sister Sarah married William's brother, Jotham Carpenter Jr.

They had children born at Cumberland, Rhode Island but later removed to Rensselaer Co., New York.

William died on Nov. 13, 1858 and is buried in the Brainard Rural Cemetery, Brainard, Rensselaer, NY. ^[3]

Elsy died there on Sep. 27, 1863 and is buried in the Brainard Rural Cemetery, with William. ^[4]
