In his household in 1850, in addition to his second wife and his children, was Eunice Nearing, age 19, and three farm laborers: 50-year-old Scottish immigrant Malcolm McPherson, 19-year-old James Knickerbocker, and 24-year-old Richard White. Charles later remarried, marrying Polina H.
