Martin Dewey was born in Massachusetts.

Private Martin Dewey served with 8th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Martin was born December 26, 1740 in Westfield, Massachusetts Colony to Martin Dewey and Elizabeth Dewey.[1] He was baptised on May 16, 1742 in Westfield.[2]

In 1775 Martin joined the Westfield Minute Men, led by Lieut. John Shephard, in response to the alarm on April 19. He was in service with them for 8 days before enlisting in the army on April 28. Martin served with Captain Warham Park's company and Col. Timothy Danielson's regiment. He was reported as died on July 10, 1775 and again reported on the muster roll from August 1 as having died on July 12.[3][4]

Research Notes

A Martin Dewey is buried in the School Street Cemetery in Lebanon, New Hampshire. However this burial is for a different Martin Dewey (1750-1849) .[5]
