Biography

Abigail Dewey was born 3 Oct 1777 in Westfield, Massachusetts^[1], daughter of Timothy Dewey (1755-1839) and Aseneth Sexton (1757-1836). On 28 Dec 1801 in Westfield^[2], she married Zadock Bush (1774-1828). They had eleven children, born in Westfield^[3].

Abigail passed away 5 Jan 1852 age 74 in Westfield^[4][5].

Research note

The Dewey source^[3] claims that Zadock was a farmer in Lewis County, New York, as well as Westfield, Massachusetts, and claims that the children were born in New York. Indeed, there do exist land records of a Zadock Bush in Lewis County from 1806 to 1811 when three of the children were born. Lewis County is 225 miles from Westfield, and no evidence was found that the Zadock in the present profile ever made this trip or lived anywhere but Westfield. Moreover, all of the adult children, in Census records, report that they were born in Massachusetts, and nearly all married in or near Westfield to Westfield-area spouses. It seems likely that New York Zadock was a different person.
