Biography

Billie (Dent) Bailey is a part of US Black heritage.

Billie Maxine Dent was born on the 1st August 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, United States, the daughter of McKinley Dent and Sadie Rebecca Brumfield, and named in part for her mother's sister, Billie.^[1]

On the 4th April 1930, 4-year-old Billie was living in her maternal grandparents' home at 6202 Throop Street, Chicago. Others in residence at the time were her grandfather, Jerry M Brumfield (53), a lawyer with the City Attorney; her grandmother: Anna (53); her maternal aunt: Billie (22), and aunt Billie's husband: Texas-born Dick C Campbell (26), an actor; another of her mother's sisters: Ethel, a Church social worker, and aunt Ethel's husband Tennessee-born Ernest Hardgrave (31), a postal clerk; and a cousin: 12-year-old Illinois-born Felicidad Guevara, daughter of aunt Ethel's first marriage.^[2]

17-year-old Billie and 19-year-old Ewart Gladstone Abner were married on the 18th November 1942, in Cook County, Illinois.^[3]

By 1960 Billie was in California, as Billie M Abner.^[4] At some point, however, the marriage with Ewart Abner broke down, ending in divorce.

At 37 years of age Billie and 41-year-old Harrison Bailey were married on the 1st June 1963 in Los Angeles, California.^[5]
Unfortunately, this marriage was not to last, either, also ending in divorce in December 1967, having lasted a mere four years.^[6]

Billie Maxine Bailey née Dent, also Abner, passed away on the 11th December 2002, in Elkhorn, Walworth County, Wisconsin, United States, aged 77 years.^{[7] [8]}

An obituary published in the C Regional New listed her parents as McKinley Dent and Sadie Brumfield Dent; and her siblings as Carolyn Johnson, Merrily Newton, Cherry Lorthridge, and Bertha Baker.^[9]
