Biography

Lewis Dent is Notable.

Lewis was born in 1808, the son of Mark Dent and Elizabeth Ferguson. His mother died by the time he was ten, and his father remarried when he was around 11. He married Eliza Ann Simms at age 26, and owned several properties in Missouri. He also served as a Missouri State Representative. Lewis passed away in 1880 at age 71.

From Lewis's Father's Biography

Mark W Dent, one of the old settlers of this part of the State, came from Franklin County, VA., to what was then Ste. Genevieve County, Mo., in 1811. He was born in Maryland and when a young boy was taken to Virginia. There he married a Miss Ferguson, who bore him three children, for the youngest of whom, Louis, Dent County was named. ...^[1]

Dent County Named for Lewis Dent

The county (Dent) was officially organized on February 10, 1851 by Dustin Counts & Nicholas Berardy, and is named after state representative Lewis Dent, a pioneer settler who arrived in Missouri from Virginia in 1835.^[2]
