Biography

Eva (Denhoff) Spielman was a Volga German.

Eva was born in Russia and came to Canada in 1904. She had a sister Marie Denhoff who was married to Leonhard Schneider and also lived in Calgary.

Eva and her family first lived in East Calgary where her husband Frederick worked for a brewery. Then they moved to Bridgeland and lived at 401 - 7a Street N.E.

It is interesting to see that towards the end of her life Eva was given separate entries in the Henderson directories which show her employed at the Ontario Laundry. She would have been in her 50's. It is unclear, though, how long she worked there.

Eva died in 1930. She is buried at Burnsland Cemetery.

Funeral Saturday of Mrs. Spielman

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Spielman, aged 54 years, wife of Frederick Spielman, 401 Seven-A street northeast, who died Wednesday, following an illness of three iyears, will be held Saturday at 2:30 from St. John's Lutheran Church, Rev. T. Polekman officiating. Interment will take place in Burnsland Cemetery with A. M. Shaver's funeral parlors in charge.

The late Mrs. Spielman was born in Alexandria, Russia, and came to Calgary 26 years ago. She is survived by her husband, and six sons and three daughters.
