Lillian Deist was born on 25 February 1888 in Illinois. [1] She was the daughter of Henry Deist and Marie Bettenhausen. [2] [1]
She appeared in the 1900 US Census in Green Garden Township, Will County, Illinois. [3] She was living with her parents and her siblings Emil, William, Clarence, and Arthur. [3]
She appeared in the 1910 US Census in Green Garden Township. [4] She was living with her parents and her siblings Emil, William, Clarence, and Pearl. [4]
She married Irving Roberts on 17 November 1910 in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois. [2] They had the following children:
She appeared in the 1920 US Census at 212 Miller Ave. in Joliet, Will County, Illinois. [5] She was living with her husband Irving and their daughter Naomi. [5]
She appeared in the 1930 US Census at 458 West 19th Street in Hammond, North Township, Lake County, Indiana. [6] She was living with her husband Irving and their daughter Janet. [6]
She appeared in the 1940 US Census at 912 West 19th Street in Hammond. [7] She was living with her husband Irving and their daughter Janet. [7]

She died on 14 January 1980 in Munster, North Township, Lake County, Indiana. [1] She was buried on 17 January 1980 at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet, Will County, Illinois. [1] [9]
Her obituary in the 16 January 1980 edition of The Times reads [10]:
LILLIAN ROBERTS, aged 91, of Hessville - formerly of Whiting, passed away Monday, January 14, 1980 at Munster Med Inn. Survivors: one daughter, Janet Hartl of Hessville; one brother, William Deist of Frankfort, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Oetter of Ennis, Montana; two grandchildren, Marsha Hartl - formerly of Hessville, now residing in Houston, Texas and Joseph Harti - a student at Purdue University, Lafayette; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 17 at 10:00 a.m. from the Owens Funeral Home, 816 - 119th St., Whiting, with Rev. Frank Messenger officiating. Interment, Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, Illinois. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.
Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #312 of Whiting; member of the Whiting Methodist Church; and a resident of the Calumet Area for 47 years.
